World breastfeeding week 2020!

It’s the world breastfeeding week 2020!
The theme for this year is “Support breastfeeding for a healthier planet.”
Breastfeeding provides every child with the best possible start in life. It delivers health, nutritional and emotional benefits to both children and mothers and forms part of a sustainable food system.
Exclusive breastfeeding from birth to 6 months promotes the child’s adequate growth and development. Breast milk is always clean and contains enough water for the baby’s needs and antibodies that protect against diseases; it’s always ready at the right temperature and is easy to digest.
Smart Start Siaya-Nyathi en Mwandu advices mothers to Breastfeed as often as your child wants especially at night. Each feeding session should take between 20 and 45minutes. Note that your child might be hungry if he/she is fussing, sucking fingers or moving lips.
Due to the pandemic, if you are breastfeeding and have symptoms of or confirmed COVID-19, take steps to avoid spreading the virus to your baby: Wash your hands before touching your baby. Wear a facemask, if possible, while feeding at the breast.
