The Smart Start Siaya team led by the ECD Patron, H.E Rosella Rasanga, the first Lady Siaya County Kenya was humbled to meet and sensitize about 300 parents/caregivers at Rageng’ni, North Uyoma Ward on nurturing care during the ward visit.
It was clear that most caregivers are changing their views on the nurturing care and there is positively an improvement on the care giving.
The meeting brought in attendees who were ready to get information. Male involvement was a concern.
During the meeting, some hindrance to Male involvement were noted to be;
- Culture which some men claimed restricted some of their actions in the child stimulation and care. Child upbringing was seen to be the role of the mother.
- The kinds of jobs the men do also had some effect on the male’s availability for their children, men claimed some do hard jobs that make them tired and not able to be with their children.
- Bad Economy status is also is a barrier for the male, it means they have to struggle a lot in ensuring ends meet and this probably leaves them with very little time for other fatherly roles.
The first lady reemphasized on the need of responsive care giving and encouraging each person to be in the fore front in the fight for Excellence in nurturing Care to get the best in their children.
Many questions were raised pertaining the best practices of child upbringing and the nurturing care, they all got answers for all the concerns.
Siaya county leads as an example of a county of nurturing care in Kenya.
“The zeal of ensuring Optimal growth of the children should be a doing of everybody,” urged the first Lady.
